Matosinhos inaugurates new Urban Garden

The Horta à Porta Project keeps growing!

On June 12th, a new kitchen garden was inaugurated in Guifões, Matosinhos. The new Horta de Sendim has 10 plots, each measuring approximately 25m², intended for the practice of organic farming.

Horta à Porta is a project that began in 2004 and counts today with 58 kitchen gardens, almost 2200 plots, distributed across the 8 LIPOR’s associated municipalities. The main objective of creating organic gardens is to treat bio-waste at source, in addition to promoting an improvement in the population's quality of life through good agricultural practices and the creation of dynamic green spaces.

Citizens who signed up to receive a plot received prior training in organic farming and home composting, and the products grown are intended for their own consumption.

The creation of this space results from the application of the Matosinhos City Council to the Action Plans for Integrated Operations of Intervention Territories (PAOITI).
