LIPOR is a partner in the ESTRAEE project,
whose main objective is to promote, at the cross-border region Galicia-North of
Portugal, a strategy for the sustainable management of end-of-life electrical
and electronic equipment, involving citizens, local government, manufacturers
and producers, through the Producer's Extended Responsibility Systems and
within the framework of the current regulatory setting.
For this, the project contemplates:
municipal selective collection systems by adapting, within the framework of the
WEEE Directive, 18 drop-off sites located in the cross-border area, to ensure a
correct storage of WEEE to reuse.
definition of a common normative that defines the best practices for the
fulfillment of the Directive and for the sustainable management of the WEEE in
the scope of the municipal operations of management of WEEE.
realization of a study of Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) of different types of WEEE:
washing machines; dishwashers; tablets and smarthphones, comparing reuse and
implementation of a resource pool and secondary raw materials market.
Approved under the Spain-Portugal
cooperation program, through the EP-INTERREG V-A program (POCTEP) and under
implementation from 2017 to 2019, the project is coordinated by the Deputación
de Pontevedra (Spain) and has as Portuguese partners, besides LIPOR -
Intermunicipalized Waste Management Service of Greater Porto and ERP - Portugal
(European Recycling Platform). On the Spanish side, the remaining partners are
ERP SAS - Spain, the Foundation Technological Center for Energy Efficiency and
Sustainability - Energylab and Revertia - Reuse and Recycling.
Boosting the preparation for reuse as a
priority option in the management of WEEE gives the ESTRAEE Project a
pioneering and innovative character in Europe, opening the doors to the
development of a greener economy.
