The integration of Climate Change in Lipor’s activity is essential to its commitment to sustainable development, leading Lipor to take:

  • Climate change as a major threat to global sustainability and therefore top priority of their environmental and sustainable development policies;
  • The Response and Adaptation to Climate Change as structuring strategy of its daily activities;
  • Mobilization of citizens and society essential to reach its prevention and recycling goals;
  • Cooperation, as a structural area of ADAPTATION in its strategy on Climate Change (transition 2M => 3M), contributing to the diffusion of good practices, information and knowledge and for the outlining of sector level (WasteAdapt) and regional level (NorteAdapt) strategies.

Lipor acknowledges climate change as one of the biggest challenges we currently face, which requires a coherent action from governments, organisations and citizens. Bearing in mind that waste management is, at the same time, a source of and a mitigation instrument for GHG emissions, Lipor acknowledges the importance of this theme to the sector and, particularly, to its activity.

Furthermore, as a result of Climate Change and bearing in mind the possible implications of non-action on Climate Adaptation, either to the structure and to business - high losses, infrastructure destruction and emergency situations - LIPOR will add to its strategy on climate change, the theme of ADAPTATION.

There will be four main areas to be worked within the ADAPTATION theme: (1) knowledge; (2) action; (3) mobilization; and (4) Cooperation.
