Shoal identified by user of the LIPOR Ecological Trail indicates the improvement of environmental conditions in Rio Tinto river

This week, a school of Cyprinids, Achondrostoma oligolepis, was found in Rio Tinto. The discovery was made by José Teixeira, who usually photographs nature on the LIPOR Ecological Trail. The presence of this shoal is, without a doubt, an indicator of the improvement in the environmental conditions because of the investment that LIPOR and its Associated Municipalities have been making in Rio Tinto.

One of the premises of the Rio Tinto valorization project is to revive the riverside ecosystem. With this goal in mind, a set of interventions has been defined to restore the river and its banks. When visiting the river, accessing through our facilities, it is also possible to observe a set of natural engineering practices for its requalification, on the banks and riverbed.

The valorization project also includes a strategy to bring Rio Tinto river closer to the Community, which includes the Environmental Interpretation Center and the LIPOR Adventure Park and Ecological Trail.
