Serras do Porto, in partnership with LIPOR, seeks to adapt the Serras to Climate Change
Adapting the Porto Mountains to Climate Change is the motto of the project co-financed by the European Union through the LIFE Program, which has the forest as its core theme, and includes an integrated set of interventions with a high positive impact on the landscape and ecosystems, in addition to monitoring, dissemination, awareness and civic involvement actions.
LIPOR, as a partner in this project, led by the Association of Municipalities Parque das Serras do Porto, has the opportunity to consolidate the work that has been developed within the scope of its 2030 Biodiversity Strategy, contributing positively to global biodiversity objectives, towards to a nature positive journey.
Within the scope of LIFE Serras do Porto, the initiatives carried out during the months of October and September stand out:
Carrying out a tour of the land, for a in loco approach to the ecological restoration work underway within the scope of LIFE Serras do Porto and the impacts of the recent fires, with the presence of the President of the Executive Board and President of the Board of Directors of LIPOR, José Manuel Ribeiro, and mayors of Paredes, Alexandre Almeida, and of Gondomar, Cláudia Vieira and Ana Luísa Gomes, accompanied by technical elements from Parque das Serras, the Municipalities and LIPOR;
Training in agroforestry systems promoted by LIPOR, where the importance of an integrated approach to ecological niches was reinforced, knowing and enhancing synergies between all living beings and the environment, as well as the necessary balance between different plant strata and soil horizons.
This project is only possible thanks to the joint effort of the beneficiaries involved, through their human resources and a significant investment in favor of the sustainability of this territory and the quality of life of local communities.
