Iara Muchanga is the eighth Girl Mover to intern at LIPOR

Continuing the partnership established with the Girl Move Academy over the past seven years, LIPOR is hosting Girl Mover Iara Muchanga during the month of September. During this period, the young designer will experience an enriching exchange of knowledge and culture alongside the Organization's employees.

With a degree in Industrial Chemistry, Iara Muchanga is passionate about fashion, a sector in which she has been an entrepreneur, focusing on creations that emphasize the circular economy. Her commitment to contributing to waste reduction is part of her purpose, with the professional goal of working on the development of textile factories in Mozambique and leading the creative department of an established fashion brand.

Among the achievements of the journey of the LIPOR 2024 Girl Mover is the creation of a collection for Mozambique Fashion Week 2023, with approximately 80% recycled material, the development of a collection for NneNne Iwuji, the British Council High Commissioner, and the launch of a business selling fashion accessories made from recycled materials.

In addition to interacting with key stakeholders of the Organization, with the aim of enhancing skills and gaining practical experience that will contribute to her professional future, during the internship period, Iara Muchanga will also lead various initiatives at LIPOR. One of these will be the Impactalk, scheduled for September 14 at Casa do Corim, a space run by LIPOR that serves as a sustainability hub. During the Impactalk, which are conversations aimed at reflecting on humanitarian and environmental issues to raise awareness of contemporary societal impact, the LIPOR 2024 Girl Mover will speak about her journey and the importance of the circular economy in people’s lives.

The Girl Move Academy is a Mozambican leadership academy that promotes women's education and leadership through an intergenerational circular mentorship model, which amplifies talent, promotes gender equality, and generates sustainable transformation. The mentorship model aims to empower young women to become leaders and agents of change in society. A project that LIPOR is proud to be a part of!
