LIPOR Awards the Green Heart Certificate to 94 Entities for Best Practices in Waste Management
On October 26, the 3rd edition of the Green Heart Event took place at LIPOR’s Organic Valorization Center Auditorium. The event celebrated the awarding of the Green Heart Certification—granted by LIPOR and its Associated Municipalities—to organizations recognized for sustainable practices and positive environmental impact.
Currently, LIPOR works continuously with over 900 organizations, of which 385 are already certified with the Green Heart, while the others continue their certification journey. In 2024 alone, this collaborative effort led to the awarding of 94 new Certifications across Educational Communities, Companies, and Public Entities, including Municipalities, Municipal Services, Finance Departments, Law Enforcement (PSP and GNR), Civil Protection, as well as other Associations and organizations from different sectors based in the municipalities associated with LIPOR.
In addition to the certificate awards, the event also highlighted the sharing of innovative best practices and awarded the Green Heart Distinctions: "Person of the Year," "Entity of the Year," and "Event of the Year." These distinctions were awarded respectively to Patricia Wielewicki, the Union of Parishes of Perafita, Lavra, and Santa Cruz do Bispo, and the Porto Beer Fest, all of whom stood out in 2024 for their commitment and for promoting the values of the Green Heart Certification within the community.
According to Filipe Araújo, LIPOR Administrator and Vice-Mayor of Porto Municipality, "being a "Green Heart” is not the end; rather, it’s the beginning of an increased responsibility—the responsibility to share best practices, to influence, and to involve communities in a set of actions and behaviors crucial for the paradigm shift we so urgently need.”
The Green Heart recognition also reflects the LIPOR Lifestyle, promoting sustainable living and fostering Sustainable Communities.
