LIPOR and Associated Municipalities invest in the Quality of their materials
Ambitious recycling goals require significant increases in the Quantities of selectively collected waste and improvements in the Quality of materials sent for recycling. More focus is needed on promoting circular economy, which involves valuing waste as raw material for new products.
Taking advantage of the implementation of the Municipal Urban Waste Action Plans, also known as PAPERSU, LIPOR and its Associated Municipalities created the Qualimatters project, which aims to improve and optimize the quality of the loads received from selectively collected waste, being its main objective the reduction of non-conformities in reception by 20%.
The project is based on two main axes, the first focusing on information, awareness and training for all involved, and the second, more on a technical and operational level, with the improvement of procedures and implementation of new technologies to support treatment.
In this sense, on October 2nd, LIPOR received technicians from the Associated Municipalities at its facilities for the kick-off meeting and to present the project. The meeting also included representatives from the companies BA GLASS and Greenpapers, who gave presentations on the impact of non-quality waste on their production processes.
Additionally, with the aim of improving Quality, LIPOR continues to invest in more efficient sorting systems to guarantee the high quality of recycled materials and maximize the quantities that can be recovered.
The quality of the material is not just a detail, it is what defines the excellence of the material management and circularity system. It will be a challenge, which will only be overcome with teamwork: Citizens, Municipality and LIPOR.
