LIPOR promotes Participatory Workshop, to debate textiles, dedicated to its Municipalities

LIPOR, in close relationships with its Associated Municipalities - Espinho, Gondomar, Maia, Matosinhos, Porto, Póvoa de Varzim, Valongo and Vila do Conde - has been promoting specific thematic actions.

On April 19th, given the responsibility and obligation of the Municipalities to collect textile waste from January 1st, 2025, LIPOR promoted the Participatory Workshop "Sustainable Strategies for Textiles and Post-Consumer Textile Waste”.

This event focused on the presentation and sharing of ideas and initiatives, ending with a moment of Brainstorming to discuss ideas, difficulties and survey needs regarding the themes of Ecological Public Procurement, Prevention and Reuse, Disposal Solutions and Collection, Routing and Citizen Valuation and Involvement Solutions.

This meeting also featured the intervention of NITextile (a spin-off of the University of Minho dedicated to research and sustainable development in the Textile and Footwear sectors) which highlighted the distinction between pre- and post-consumption waste, the implementation of Extended Consumer Responsibility (RAP) in the textile sector, the importance of design in waste prevention and pointed out some solutions for the treatment of textile and footwear waste.

In this workshop, in addition to directors and technicians from the Associated Municipalities, CCDR-N and Ambisousa were also represented.
