LIPOR Supports the 30th Edition of the Serra da Estrela International Environmental Film Festival, CineEco
LIPOR and its Associated Municipalities and the Municipality of Seia have maintained a partnership since 2018, formalized through a Collaboration Protocol within the framework of the Serra da Estrela International Environmental Film Festival – CINEECO, which celebrates its 30th edition from October 10 to 18, 2024, in the city of Seia.
This is an event that has secured its place in the cultural landscape, not only of Seia but of the entire country, bringing culture and the debate of environmental issues to an increasingly broad and diverse audience. This was also LIPOR’s main motivation for associating itself with this initiative from the Municipality of Seia, expressing its commitment to promoting behavioral change and adopting new, healthier, and more sustainable lifestyles.
Through this protocol, LIPOR fulfils its mission of going beyond waste management, positioning itself as an agent of social and environmental change, promoting responsible behavior through environmental education and awareness. Its collaboration with CineEco strengthens the commitment to bringing these topics to a wider audience and using cinema as a powerful tool for social transformation.
These objectives have been achieved through the official CineEco/LIPOR Screenings, organized in collaboration with partners as diverse as our associated municipalities the Serralves Foundation, the Rectory of the University of Porto and the Júlio Resende Foundation, among others.
At the same time, valuing our Environmental Education Facilities, CineEco screenings have been held at LIPOR Adventure Park and at Casa do Corim.
Believing that the future depends on the education and awareness of new generations, this partnership is also promoted within the context of the Geração+ Program, allowing to integrate environmental education in a pedagogical and proactive way within schools and the community, helping to build a more conscious and active society in the environment protection. The promotion and dissemination of specific films within the network of schools and institutions that works with LIPOR throughout the year, accompanied by debate and discussion on the topics addressed, encourages a critical reflection on environmental issues, promoting more conscious thinking and fostering responsible behavior.
CineEco, one of the oldest environmental film festivals in the world, reinforces the role of cinema as a means of raising awareness, and LIPOR and its Municipalities see this partnership as a unique opportunity to convey a global message, particularly to a younger audience. In this 30th edition of the festival, 64 films from 27 countries will be screened, addressing topics such as the preservation of wild species, the resilience of indigenous communities, the ecological challenges of major urban centers, and the role of regenerative agriculture.
